Se rompe o fractura f\u00e1cilmente. Su cambio o reparaci\u00f3n es bastante costoso y se lleva adicionalmente de un tiempo largo donde no se puede contar con la caldera.\n<br><br>\nLos dise\u00f1os de calderas antiguas utilizaban material refractario (cemento o ladrillos refractarios) para aislar aquellas \u00e1reas en las que la flama o los gases de combusti\u00f3n pod\u00edan entrar en contacto con acero que no contaba con agua para enfriarlo del otro lado.\n<br><br>\nEn calderas de tubos de humo antiguas, el uso m\u00e1s com\u00fan del material refractario era en la c\u00e1mara de retorno de gases (turnaround chamber) y en las puertas en donde se utilizaba en cantidades grandes y geometr\u00edas complejas que lo hac\u00edan muy fr\u00e1gil. Especialmente una secci\u00f3n de material refractario utilizada para separar los gases del segundo y tercer paso, com\u00fanmente llamado \u201caltar o marco refractario\u201d (refractory bridge) .\n<br><br>\nLos dise\u00f1os de calderas modernas minimizan el uso de material refractario ya que con ello se aumenta la confiabilidad y eficiencia y se reduce el mantenimiento requerido.\n<br><br>\nUna caldera horizontal de tubos de humo moderna de 80 HP o mayor, no requiere de un marco refractario ya que su c\u00e1mara de desv\u00edo de gases es de acero. Esta c\u00e1mara es enfriada por agua y se le denomina Wet-Back (Retorno h\u00famedo) (Ver gu\u00eda t\u00e9cnica: WET BACK) y tampoco requiere de material refractario en las puertas delanteras y traseras ya que se reemplaza con lana mineral y l\u00e1mina de acero inoxidable.\n<br><br>\nPara garantizar la confiabilidad y bajo costo de mantenimiento, todas las calderas horizontales de tubos de humo de Powermaster de 80 HP o mayores, cuentan con un Wet-Back y no utilizan material refractario en sus puertas delanteras o traseras.
